EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) is seeking senior science managers to fill two positions in the National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL), Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division (APPCD) in Research Triangle Park, NC. The incumbent in each position will serve as Chief of a technical Branch in APPCD.
The Branch Chief reports to the Division Director and exercises supervisory management responsibilities over Branch staff members; works with the Division Director to develop and implement a multi-million dollar research program; assists and advises the Division Director in the formulation of goals and objectives; promotes understanding and effective use of all administrative resources and infrastructure critical to the achievement of the mission, strategic goals, and quality science.
We are seeking candidates to serve as Branch Chief of one of two Branches:
Emissions Characterization and Prevention Branch: Conducts research on a variety of area, stationary and mobile air pollution source categories. Areas source characterization research involves development and implementation of remote sensing techniques to measure emissions form diffuse sources such as, industrial plants, CAFOs, oil and gas operations, and landfills. Mobile source characterization involves both dynamometer and over-the road emission measurement techniques, as well as study of near roadway ambient impacts. Prevention and control R&D includes diesel retrofit technology and stationary emission prevention and control systems.
Technical Services Branch: The Branch performs research support on improved measurement techniques, advanced quality assurance procedures, field research for area source emissions measurement, and pilot plant control technology R&D. In addition, it provides a variety of technical services essential for the support of Division R&D programs, including: management of the Quality Assurance, metrology lab calibration services, electronics and machine shop services, on-site operations contract, oversight of program planning, and technical publications review and clearance
These positions will be open to any current U.S. citizen. Desirable qualifications include demonstrated experience and results in leading, managing, and planning environmental research activities; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a general understanding of U. S. environmental laws and policy and implications for conducting research.
